Colder than the North Pole, drier than the Sahara, with
more than 99% of its land mass covered in ice, Antarctica
is certainly not for the faint of heart. Yet that hasn't
stopped the truly adventurous from visiting - from Shackleton
to Byrd, explorers and scientists from around the world
have long been drawn to the coldest continent on earth.
With no permanent citizens and no government, this magnificent
wonder truly belongs to nobody, and to everybody.
